3×3 FISU World University League 2016: Final Day

24 October 2016

XIAMEN Joys and tears filled the whole Sports Hall after the whistle ending the Men’s final of 3×3 FISU World University League Final 2016, on the night of 23 October. A few hours before this fantastic moment, the finals of Shoot-out and Dunk contests excited all the spectators in the Xinglin Sport Hall. Ursa Zibert of Ljubljana University (SLO) won the Shoot-out with 12 points, followed by Elena Kozheporova of Magnitogorsk St. University (RUS), and Zhang Jingyi of Beijing Normal University. Soon after, Tonny Drileba of Makerere University (UGA) showed his creativity and remarkable leaping ability with a wonderful dunk, which lighted up the venue, and scored better than other dunkers.

Women’s Podium

In the Women’s Final, Lithuanian Sports University (LTU) faced the University of Regina (CAN). At the very beginning, the girls of Regina led the game. Both teams played hard for any possible advantage they could get. The team of Lithuanian Sports University attacked efficiently, and then eventually reached the top of the podium with the score of 21 to 14.

Men’s Podium

An epic scene was repeated in the Men’s Final. University of Bordeaux (FRA) met a Canadian team again. Both teams performed well, but McGill University (CAN) took the lead after a few minutes. The Frenchmen tried to score, but it was not easy, especially under the pressure of a tight defence from McGill University. The French team was defeated again, and the trophy will go to Canada the second year in a row.

“The participants got a lot more than expected, the event was more than a game”, FISU President Oleg Matytsin summarised in his closing speech.
