FISU Present at CIGEPS Meeting

Mr. Kolë Gjeloshaj, Mr. Kamal Guemmar, Mr. Omar Al-Hai
Concurrently with the VI World Forum on Sport, Education and Culture, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) met on September 27th in Busan, Republic of Korea. This meeting was dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the global traditional sports and games. Kolë Gjeloshaj, Director for Education and Development Services - Chief of Staff to the President attended the meeting as an observer on behalf of FISU where he was accompanied by Mr. Omar Al-Hai, FISU Executive Committee member.
By the members of the CIGEPS, we have to notice that the representative of Croatia Mr. Zrinko Custonja is also the President of the University Sports Federation and the representative of Austria, Mr. Markus Redl was the CEO of the Organising Committee of the 2005 Winter Universiade in Innsbruck. We have to underline that the CIGESP President, Mr. Kamal Guemmar of Algeria participated in the 1973 Summer Universiade in Moscow.
Were also in attendance as observer the representatives of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), Mrs. G. Doll-Tepper and Detlef Dumon. FISU officially joined this organisation this year. As UNESCO is for the first time an official partner of the 4th TAFISA (Trim and Fitness International Sport for All Association) World Sport for All Games, all delegates were invited to the Opening Ceremony of this event. Under the lead of Mr. Wataru Iwamoto, Director of the research and social sciences policies department the Busan Appeal for preserving and promoting traditional sports and games was adopted.
