2008 WUC Rowing: Update

The 10th World University Rowing Championships will be held in Belgrade from September 4th to 7th, 2008 and will be a testcase for the rowing competition at the 2009 Universiade as, rowing will feature as an optional sport. So far, the Organizing Committee had several meetings where tasks related to organization of the Championship have been delivered, and the works have already begun.
Regarding to the technical organization, instalation and infrastructure on the regatta venue, the ’Ada Ciganlija Regatta Course’ satisfies the highest criteria of the World Rowing Federation (FISA). The OC is in process of getting the technical equipment which will be used for the organization of the World University Championship and the rowing regattas during the Universiade. The technical equipment consists of a complete system for time measuring, a start bridge with all the necessary instalations and 4 catamarans with outboard engines. Concerning the organization of the accommodation and transportation during the Championship the OC is finalizing negotiations with the Belgrade University Campus and several other hotels, as well as a transportation company. Organizing the accommodation is easier because facilities forseen for the accommodation of all praticipants will be renovated during the preparation for Universiade 2009 Due to the promotion of the 2008 World University Rowing Championship and the 2009 Universiade, a University International Regatta has been organized in Belgrade, from September 23rd to 24th, 2006. Nine prestigious European University Centres participated: Oxford, Cambridge, Milan, Lion, Zagreb, Szeged, Karlsruhe, Wasrszawa and Belgrade. This competition took enormous interest with media companies as well as public viewers.
