FISU President Receives Award at SportAccord

During the "GAISF Awards Ceremony", which took place at the 2007 SportAccord Convention in Beijing, China, FISU President George E. Killian received the 'Spirit of Sport Award' from Hein Verbruggen. The 'Spirit of Sport Award' was promulgated for those who through their unique commitment and humanitarian spirit have made an exceptional and lasting contribution to the pursuit of sport excellence, sportsmanship, sport participation or other legacy using sport as a major contributor to the betterment of society. The AGFIS/GAISF Council decreed in 2002 at the Congress in Colorado Springs that such an award should represent that commitment and dedication of those that have labored, excelled and triumphed in making sport that vehicle that drives individuals including athletes, coaches, organizers, officials, journalists and benefactors the engine that propels as a replica of the society that is a positive force in the world. The GAISF Awards Commission appointed by Acting President Hein Verbruggen, consists of various International Federations representatives and members of GAISF, whose years of experience in sport at all levels will judge the nominations and make their recommendation(s) to the GAISF Council for concurrence.
