2008 WUC Rugby 7: Update

September 26th, 2007

The 3rd edition of the World University Rugby 7 Championship will take place from July 16th to 19th in Córdoba, Spain. Córdoba in Andalucía, southern Spain, and the capital of the province of Córdoba, is located on the banks of the Guadalquivir river and was founded in ancient Roman times as Corduba which became the Capital of the western world in the 11th century. Córdoba has the essence of Spain - Iberian, Roman, Visigoth, Jewish, Islamic and Christian civilizations, captured in its stones, its monuments and its collective consciousness. Today a moderately-sized modern city, the old town contains many impressive architectural reminders of when Córdoba was the thriving capital of the Caliphate of Córdoba that governed almost all of the Iberian peninsula. Intimately linked with the city's history and identity is the Mosque of Cordoba (la Mezquita), now Cordoba's Cathedral and one of Spain's most visited attractions. The whole tournament will take place at the University of Córdoba’ Rabanales sporting area, with the Montecronos stadium as its main venue. The athletes will be accommodated at the Anzur College, only five minutes away by bus from the Córdoba city centre. This college offers all facilities needed, including catering and internet connection. A bus shuttle service will be implemented, connecting the sporting venues and the accommodation site every 30 minutes. Soon, more information will be available on the website of the Local Organising Committee at www.fisurugby2008.com.
