2008 WUC Squash: Update
April 25th, 2008

Mrs. Zena Wooldridge, the new Technical Chair for Squash travelled together with FISU Director of WUC Laurent Briel to the seat of the Egyptian University Sports federation for a meeting with the Organising Committee of the 2008 WUC Squash. The HQ of the Egyptian NUSF is located at the University of Cairo, which is the oldest university of Egypt. The FISU delegates were welcomed by Mr. Wael Taalat, who is the key person in the organisation of the 2008 WUC Squash. Mr. Wael Taalat introduced the FISU delegates to Dr. Abdel Hay Ebd, First Vice-President, to Dr. Mohamed Sobhi, Vice-President and to Dr. Essam El Hilaly, Senior President.
Prof. Wael Taalat gave a presentation on the progress of the work of the Organising Committee which was followed by a presentation on the work plan by FISU Director of WUC Laurent Briel. Then Mrs. Wooldridge took the floor the tackle all technical aspects of the Championship. During the second day of their inspection visit the FISU delegates visited the venues and hotels for the WUC. The competitions will take place in the fantastic squash centre which has already been used numerous times for international tournaments. The organisers have a second centre as back-up venue in case the number of participants will be higher than expected. The FISU Technical Delegate was very much impressed with the venues and only minor changes need to be made to make them ready to host the 2008 WUC Squash.
The hotels are top-notch and it will be to the WUC hosts to decide which hotel to select in function of the transportation to the sport venues. In one of the hotels, which are all within a 200m perimeter, there is the possibility to practice as there are two squash courts within the building. Without any doubt, the Egyptians will warmly welcome the participants to their first WUC and we hope a lot of NUSFs will register their squash players as this inaugural WUC in Egypt will be a memorable event for all the participants.
