Entire Ada – Universiade
The first day of summer in the Serbian capital was marked by a sports event held under the slogan Entire Ada – Universiade. The citizens of Belgrade looking for a breath of fresh air and recreation flocked to the sports grounds of the “Belgrade Sea”. With a view to popularization of the International University Sports Games, the UB2009 Company in collaboration with the public company Ada Ciganlija organized this recreational feast under the slogan “Entire Ada – Universiade”.
"We consider relevant and competent the conclusions of the FISU official committee which was our guest in Belgrade last week. A lot of work is awaiting us and, as usual, we will do it in the best possible way. Next week we are going to sign a contract with the top people of “Crvena zvezda”, the club whose stadium will be the stage for the Opening Ceremony of the Games and the track and field competition. We are also going to issue invitation to tenders very soon. Working hard, we managed to fulfill all our scheduled tasks in the best way and on time”, said Siniša Jasniæ, UB2009 Director General.
Radmila Hrustanoviæ, Vice-Mayor of Belgrade did not conceal her pleasure with the atmosphere on Ada. "This affirmative slogan for the Ada Sports Day is great. The programme has been well conceived, and what is even better – a large number of our citizens took part in these activities. It’s great that Universiade is bringing only good news. The Athletes' Village will be finished before schedule. The city is actively participating in the preparations for the major sports event. Sports equipment is being purchased according to plan and I am sure that our joined efforts will result in the best Universiade in history", said the Vice-Mayor.
Besides the citizens of Belgrade, the guests of the Ada Sports Day were Universiade sponsors Siemens and Volkswagen and Ada Sports Day’s friends – Simeks Group, Trimple Jump, Masel, Frikom, Štark, Don Caffé, Nelt and Paraæinka from Paraæin, who brought their products and also took part in recreational activities. The UB2009 Company’s team was enlarged by some of the athletes who are going to compete at the International University Sports Games. "We won gold in Izmir, but last year in Bangkok we were out of luck. We are sure that in Belgrade 2009 we shall we will regain the medal", said water polo player Marko Avramoviæ. The Serbian colossus, judo vice-champion of the Universiade Aleksandar Petkoviæ, was a special guest of the Entire Ada Universiade Sports Day. "I am happy that the citizens of Belgrade came to Ada in such a large number. I am proud to have represented Serbia and won the title of vice-champion at the last year’s Universiade. I hope that next year in Belgrade we shall triumph before domestic spectators", concluded Petkoviæ.
