2008 WUC Flat Water Canoeing: Day 3
September 22nd, 2008

The finals of the 3rd World University Flat Water Canoeing Championship were held in a great atmosphere in Ada Ciganlija. Once again, Belgrade has delighted everyone with the organization of the competition. In the finals for the 1,000 m, six disciplines were paddled. The Polish representatives completely dominated, winning as many as 6 medals (1 gold medal, 4 silver medals and 1 bronze medal). The second, concerning the number of medals, were the Hungarians, with five medals (0-1-4), while the third were Belarus with three medals (2-1-0). The specialty is that the only two national teams who won two gold medals each in 1,000m, apart from Belarus, were the German competitors. Medals in 1,000 m were won by the representatives from seven countries altogether, among whom were Russians, Bulgarians and Lithuanians with two medals each. German paddler Torsten Lubisch won two gold medals in single, i.e. he is the double world champion of the WUC in single in two disciplines, in 500 m and 1,000 m. In 500 m, the Belarus representatives joined the Polish in the afternoon program with 6 won medals. The Lithuanians won 4 medals, and the host, the Serbian national team won 3 medals. Altogether, 13 national teams won medals. The most successful national team, according to the number of the medals won, is Poland (12), followed by Belarus (9) and Hungary (8).
The Serbian National University Sports Federation, The Canoe Federation of Serbia and the UB2009 Company once again passed the test and thus demonstrated that the Serbian capital will readily host the best students in the world in the following year during the 2009 Summer Universiade. As for the results, the Serbian national team was successful. With three medals, a gold medal for Antonija Nadj in single, a silver medal in double for Gajdobranski and Zoric and the Women’s four Knezevic, Nadj, Moldovan and Miskov, the 3rd World University Championship in Flat Water Canoe was completely fulfilled.
