FISU Digital Archive: First Researchers
March 22nd, 2007
FISU has a rich film and photo archive of the past Universiades and World University Championships. In order to withstand the ravages of time it was decided three years ago to digitalize these archives. As the film archive was the most urgent - some of the films were already in a bad shape - the film material was processed first. Today, all films from previous FISU events up to 2005 are available in digital format. What’s even more interesting, is that all films are included in a database which can be consulted by any one who wants to do some research into the FISU past events. In the future this will prove to be an interesting tool for journalists, students and FISU member associations. Regarding this last aspect, we can proudly announce that the first party of researchers visited the FISU HQ. From March 20th to 21st, Camilla Mason, Head of Marketing & Communications from BUSA, together with Jon Kingdon, creative director of SubTV, came to Brussels to do some research. BUSA, the British Universities Sports Association, together with SubTV wants to use the images of the Universiades and World University Championships to create more awareness of University Sport in Britain and promote it among the student population via their broadcast and communication channels of SubTV. ‘This is excellent stuff’, Jon Kingdon told FISU Media. ‘FISU has done a tremendous job in building this archive. There is so much material to work with, it’s breathtaking.’
