Belgrade students, as well as their colleagues from all around the world, celebrated their international day on November 17th. The celebration was held in high spirits, modern and dynamic atmosphere, focusing attention on all that makes students the most powerful part of any society. In Merkator shopping mall, during the whole day, students gathered, had a good time, competed in students’ triathlon and exchanged leaflets of the organizations that gathered them in the first place – Belgrade Students Union, Serbian Students Union, Volunteers Department of the Universiade, Students union of Belgrade Business School, ETC and Students World. During the final part of the ceremony, Minister of youth and sports, Snezana Samardzic Markovic and Minister of Education, Zarko Obradovic, gave their speeches. „Throughout the world, it is a privilege to be a student and therefore I am especially honored to be here today with you“, said Minister Samardzic–Markovic. „This competition of yours is a perfect overture for the Universiade that will be held next year, when your colleagues from all over the world will compete here in Belgrade. You can be proud of yourselves because you are students from a country that has university established over 200 years ago and you can make wonderful memories of Serbia and Belgrade for your colleagues, students-athletes, to take home with them“, Minister of youth and sports concluded, adding that next year Serbia will be celebrating good results at the Universiade just as they were celebrating International Students' Day. Minister of Education Zarko Obradovic spoke about the most important issues regarding scholarships and enrollment, and he pointed out the fact that next year Belgrade will host two very important events: the Universiade and the Rectors’ Conference. That is a sign of the high respect that world has for Serbian universities and a remarkable chance of promoting Serbian universities and Serbian students as well, as a vital part of the educational system. Emphasizing the role the student-volunteers will play in the organization of Universiade, Minister Obradovic added that everybody is prepared to help so the Universiade can be organized on the highest possible level.
