Natalia Rybarczyk (POL), gold medallist in the -67kg

Yesterday, July 20th, final day of the WUC, a true performance and support was organized during the finals match for women (-67kg) by devoted fans of Darcy Kimmich (USA) and Natalia Rybarczyk (POL). Not sparing their hands and with specially provided tam-tams, the fans cheered these two beauties on the tatami. Two excellent athletes provided dynamic finals that eventually turned its luck towards the Polish competitor, with the result 2:1. “I am very happy and almost speechless. Belgrade brought me luck as I won my first big medal here. This victory means a lot to me because it wasn’t easy to reach the first place in such a high quality championship. It is a result of a long period of training and hard work and I am very proud of it. I will definitely come to Belgrade next year” said Natalia Rybarczyk.”

Seung-Hee Kim (KOR), gold medallist +72kg

The finals in the category of 72 kg, finished in favour of Seung-Hee Kim from Korea. ”I feel great. I honestly didn’t expect this medal. I had an opponent from China in the finals so it was a hard earned victory. I gathered all my strength and decided firmly not to give up and finally, my effort has paid off”, said Seung Hee Ki.

Min-Wook Jeong (KOR), gold medallist in the -62kg

Min Wook Jeong (KOR) gained victory over the representative of Spain, Bruno Garcia Fernandez. “It was a difficult match. The Spanish was not just an excellent fighter, whose style does not suit me, but he was also highly motivated. Now I am getting ready for a big championship in Korea. I will remember Belgrade not only after the medal but also because of the wonderful and pleasant people and pretty girls”, said Min Wook Jeong.

Joel Gonzalez Bonilla (ESP), gold medallist in the -58kg

Joel Gonzalesa Booila (-58 kg) demonstrated exquisite taekwondo skills during this championship. Booila was unbeatable during his math with the Iranian representative, Mehdi Ahmadi. Fully deserved, the title of the World University Champion went to the Spanish athlete. “The final was very hard but I gave my maximum. I am very proud that I managed to reach the first place on a world university competition and now my next goal is gold at Universiade and the Olympics” said Joel Gonzales Booila.

Ken Min hands over the FISU flag to a Murcia delegate, host of the next WUC in 2010

After the last day of competitions, the Closing Ceremony took place in the Sport Hall. During the Ceremony, on behalf of the FISU Executive Committee, FISU CT Chair Ken Min had a closing speech where he thanked all organizers on behalf of the University Sports Movement and FISU President George E. Killian for their excellent work and successfull organization of the 10th World University Taekwondo Championship. Mr. Min gave to Sinisa Jasnic, the President of the Organizing Committee and to Dragan Jovic, Competition Director the FISU souvenir plaques. The FISU anthem was played and FISU flag was given to Murcia, Spain the next Organizing Committee of the 2010 World University Taekwondo Championship. After the Closing Ceremony there was very nice Farewell Party organized in the Green Bar close to Sava River for all competitors and volunteers.
