New Nomination for William Hybl

US VICE-PRESIDENT CHENEY SWEARS IN HYBL AS CHAIRMAN OF US ADVISORY COMMISSION ON PUBLIC DIPLOMACY

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney conducted the swearing-in ceremony early this month of William J. Hybl as he assumes the position of Chairman of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy. The ceremony took place in Washington, D.C. With the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate, President George W. Bush on March 17 appointed Hybl to the position. Hybl is Chairman and CEO of Colorado Springs-based El Pomar Foundation. The U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy is a seven-member bipartisan panel created by Congress and appointed by the President to provide oversight of U.S. government activities intended to understand, inform and influence foreign publics. This is Hybl’s second stint with the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy. He served on the Commission from 1990-1997, after being appointed twice by President George H.W. Bush and once by President Bill Clinton. During that period he served four years as the Commission’s Vice Chairman. “I look forward to rejoining the Commission,” said Hybl. “I would like to thank the President for the nomination and the Senate for the confirmation.” Hybl has devoted his entire professional career to serving the public at the local, national and international level. For the past 35 years Hybl has served as Chairman and CEO of El Pomar, one of the largest and oldest private charitable foundations in the Rocky Mountain West. In addition, he holds or has held the following positions: - Former President of the United States Olympic Committee for four Olympic Games (1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan; 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, Australia; 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France; and 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, Spain). - Current member of the International Relations Commission of the International Olympic Committee - Current Chair of Legal Commission of The Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) - Current Chairman and CEO of the U.S. Olympic Foundation

He is married and has two sons and six grandchildren.
