2007 WU Participants Continue Strong Performances on International Circuit

A number of medallists at the 23rd Winter Universiade, which was staged in Torino, Italy from January 17th to 27th, have continued their high in a number of international events after the Main FISU event. After Torino, Speed Skater and Olympic (2006) and double Universiade Champion (2005 & 2007) Enrico Fabris (ITA) travelled to the ISU World All-round Speed Skating Championships in Heereveen, Holland, which took place from February 9th to 11th. Fabris got the bronze on the 1,500 m and 5,000 m on the Thialf Oval. On February 17th and 18th, the King of the Torino Oval was at the ISU World Cup in Erfurt, Germany were he won the gold on the 1,500 m clocking a new track record with 1:45.50.
Kowalczyk Justyna (POL)
Justyna Kowalczyk (POL), who amassed three gold medals and one bronze at the Torino Universiade, won the 10km Classic at the FIS Cross Country Skiing World Cup in Otepaa, Estonia. Czech skier Filip Trejbal who collected two gold medals (Slalom & Combined) and two silver (Super G & Giant Slalom) placed himself within the FIS Top 20 (16th spot) at the recent FIS Alpine World Cup in Are, Sweden. In Antholz, Italy, Vita Semerenko (UKR) and WU gold medallist of the Women’s 10 km Pursuit landed on the 12th spot at the IBU Biathlon World Cup, followed by Darya Domracheva (BLR), WU gold medallist of the Women’s Sprint, who is now ranked 13th. Once again this proves the quality of the athletes at the FISU sporting competitions.
