2008 WUC Sport Shooting: Update

The 2nd World University Sport Shooting Championship will take place in Beijing from October 5th to 15th, 2008, and will be hosted by the Tsinghua University, one of the most famous universities in China with the highest number of academicians in Chinese universities and colleges. Sport Shooting took off a difficult start in the FISU program as the 1st edition in 2002 had to be postponed to 2003 due to the flooding of the venue at the time. With an organizational gap in 2004 and 2006, Sport Shooting will be on the 2007 Summer Universiade Program in Bangkok as an optional sport and the 2008 WUC will be a great tool to continue the restarted interest in Sport Shooting as a University Sport.
Venues The venues for the WUC will be the Tsinghua Shooting Range for 10m Air pistol and 10m Air rifle; and the Olympic Shooting Center for 25m pistol, 50m pistol, 50m rifle and Clay-pigeon shooting. Lodging and Boarding The athletes will be accommodated in the Tsinghua Guests Apartments, occupying an area of 87,000 square meters, with 3,402 rooms and 3,789 beds in total. The referees, technical delegates and the FISU Family will be lodged in the Jinchun Park Hotel and Tsinghua Unisplendour International Center with 218 4 star rooms and suites. The Hotel is only 10 minutes by walk away from the competition venue on campus. The Zhilan Dining Hall (474 seats) and the Zijing Dining Hall (3,500 seats) will be used for the boarding.
Transportation Beijing boasts a comprehensive traffic network. There will be bus transportation from the airport to the hotel to the stadium. Electrically driven shuttles will be used for transportation within the campus area. Medical Services For any medical services the OC will rely on the Tsinghua Hospital with almost 200 doctors and nurses. The more than 100 recognized hospitals and 6 first aid centers in Beijing will also be available whenever necessary. Cultural Activities An enriched program including cultural performances during the opening and closing ceremonies as well as a Beijing opera performance and visits to Beijing are foreseen.
