2008 WUC Flat Water Canoeing: Opening Ceremony

Yesterday, September 18th at 5 pm, the Opening Ceremony for the 3rd World University Flat Water Championship took the place in the Belgrade city hall. The participants were welcomed by the speaker and after the Serbian national anthem was sung by the University Choir the speeches followed. First Mr. Goran Kreclovic, President of the Organising Committee and member of the city council in charge of the sports addressed the participants who then gave the floor to FISU EC representative, Mr. Alberto Gualtieri. After his speech Mr. Gualtieri invited Mr. Sinisa Zlatanovic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to officially open the 3rd World University Flat Water Championship. The first part finished with the University Choir singing the FISU anthem ‘Gaudamus Igitur’ and the FISU flag was raised. The Athletes’ Oath was promised bya member of the Serbian team and the Referees’ Oath by an international referee. At the end of the official part of the ceremony FISU member Alberto Gualtieri thanked the state secretary for the organisation this event and honoured him by presenting the FISU souvenir plate. After the Opening Ceremony the FISU delegates, OC member and Heads of delegation were invited to the official welcome cocktail.
