2008 WUC Archery: Update

The 7th World University Archery Championship will be held in Tainan County, Chinese Taipei from July 7th to 10th, 2008. The Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation will not be a stranger to hosting the event, since they organized the very same championship in 2000. This federation and its partners, Chang-Jung Christian University as well as Tainan County Government, have already rolled up their sleeves to prepare for this upcoming event.
The competition venue, as well as the athletes’ village, will all be packaged into one location – Chang Jung Christian University. Chang Jung Christian University is a modern higher learning institution that was established more than a century ago in the late 1800s ( http://www.cjcu.edu.tw/english/History.htm). Its entire staff and student body all support the effort to organize the championship. Particularly, university president Chen Chin-Sheng personally attended the FISU executive meeting held this past August in Bangkok to present the championship progress report and to show his enthusiasm. This was the first time in the history of CTUSF that the host university sent its highest official to the FISU EC meeting. Chang-Jung Christian University’s involvement with international sports organization started last year when they accommodated softball teams and O.C. staff members participating in the 2006 World University Softball Championship. In 2008 CJCU will bring their experience and expertise to help organize the most successful WUC Archery yet. Incidentally, CJCU participates not only in organizing sporting events, but also developing world-caliber athletes. Two of their student-athletes, WU, Chih-Chi and CHIANG, Hong-Chieh, just won silver medals at the Bangkok Universiade in table tennis men’s team category.
Whereas in 2000 the WUC Archery was held in the northern part of Chinese Taipei, this time it will be staged in the south, in the city of Tainan County. Located on the southwestern coast of Chinese Taipei, Tainan County enjoys mild and beautiful weather all year round. Being close to the ocean, its main tourist attractions include amazing lagoons and wetlands with wild animal reserves. Tainan County is also rich in religious and historical activities. Participants of the WUAC will be sure to find themselves in out-of-this-world experiences.
