LAKE ADA WELCOMES CANOEISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD

Next weekend 19-21 September 2008, Ada Ciganlija will be hosting the 3rd World University Flat Water Canoeing Championship. This important event is expected to gather over 400 athletes from more than 25 different countries around the world. The championship is co-organized by the Serbian Canoe Federation and Universiade Belgrade 2009 (UB2009) as a preliminary test competition in preparation of the Universiade Belgrade. “The Serbian Canoe Federation has in the past successfully organized five World Championships in Kayak and Canoe: in 1971, 1975, 1978, 1982 and 1987. Last year Belgrade hosted the European Championship for juniors and younger seniors, for which we received praises from both officials and the competing athletes. The OC put in maximum effort together with Universiade Belgrade 2009 into organizing this World University Championship at a respectable level, which was expected of us. This means that we had to meet the FISU standards, a requirement that makes this competition unique and sets it apart from other European and World Flat Water Canoeing Championships organized according to ICF (International Canoe Federation) and ECA (European Canoe Association) standards“, said Mirko Nisovic, President of the Serbian Canoe Federation and Manager of the 3rd World University Flat Water Canoeing Championship. Belgrade is planning a number of large-scale events in the near future that will surely demonstrate the city’s spirit of sport, the pinnacle of success being the Universiade Belgrade 2009. “As in the previous two test competitions, the World University Taekwondo and Rowing Championships, we are prepared once again to demonstrate our organizational and logistical abilities as well as our professional competence in organizing the largest sporting event that awaits us next year. Our excellent collaboration with various national sports federations – the Serbian Canoe Federation in this case, serves to show that we have assembled a winning team“, said Sinisa Jasnic, President of the University Sports Federation of Serbia and Managing Director of Universiade Belgrade 2009.
“I wish to thank everyone who will be participating in the organization of the 3rd World University Flat Water Canoeing Championship, who will once again show Europe and the World the high level of expertise of our sports officials and the organizational abilities of our city of Belgrade. We are proud that such an event will be organized by our city and are delighted at the opportunity to welcome young people from around the world“, said Goran Kreclovic, Chairman of the Organization Committee. “We appreciate the events that are worthy of attention. We are pleased to assist the Serbian Canoe Federation’s organizational team and support this important sporting event. Minaqua Life is the official water supplier for the 3rd World University Flat Water Canoeing Championship“, added Sanja Vasic, PR Manager of BB Minaqua Co. The Serbian national team will count 24 athletes at the World University Flat Water Canoeing Championship in different teams competing in 500 and 1000m. “I expect our athletes to put in their best effort as always. Winning a medal is never a requirement, although I would like to see them on the medal podium. I hope they will be able to repeat their successes from the past. I wish everyone a warm welcome, lots of luck to the athletes, many nice moments and an experience worthy of memory”, concludes Mirko Nisovic, President of the Serbian Canoe Federation and Championship Manager.
