Mr. Juan-Carlos Holgado, FISU Technical Chair for Archery, visited Chinese Taipei from January 7th to January 9th, inspecting the organizing effort for the 2008 World University Archery Championship. The event will be held in Tainan County, Chinese Taipei from July 7th to 11th. The Organizing Committee of Chinese Taipei was content that this inspection visit by Mr. Holgado was considered a successful one by all means. Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) is no stranger to host a major FISU event. The Athletes’ Village of the 2006 World University Softball Championship was set up at this university. This time, CJCU will provide the competition venue along with the Athletes’ Village for the 2008 World University Archery Championship.

On a sunny day of January 7th, Mr. Holgado arrived at the Kaohsiung International Airport, the designated arrival terminal of the championship, in the afternoon and was greeted by the representatives of the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation, Stone Han and Mookie Wang. Later on, he met with the head of Tainan County Government, and the Chairman of the OC, Mr. Huan-Chih Su, who welcomed him to Chinese Taipei, and promised the full support of the government for the championship. On the next day, Mr. Holgado spent an entire day at CJCU. Upon arriving at the campus, he was met by the Vice-President of the University. Then the O.C. gave Mr. Holgado a detailed presentation of the championship, including the structure of the Organizing Committee, the technical aspects, the programme, the venue preparation, the Athletes' Village, and other organizing efforts. Mr. Holgado was impressed with the organization and offered several suggestions that would be very useful to the O.C. in organizing the best possible championship.

After the presentation, the Dean of Student Affairs of CJCU, Mr. Tai-Yuan Huang, who is also the Deputy Director General of the O.C. took Mr. Holgado on a campus tour, including the athletics field at which the actual competition will be held; the building in which many of the rooms will be set up for VIPs, athletes, media, and officials; the student dormitory that will house the participants; and the grounds where ceremonies will be held. All in all, Mr. Holgado, gave a thumbs up to the CJCU facilities and equipment. Afterward during lunch, Mr. Holgado told the CJCU faculty and staff members who will be running the championship, “Relax, you guys did a great job.” With that, everyone felt at ease and enjoyed wonderful food and conversation. Mr. Holgado strategized with the O.C. regarding how to get more entry forms from competing countries before wrapping up for the day.
The Justwin Grand Hotel
Queena Chinatrust Landmark Hotel, where Mr. Holgado stayed, will be designated as FISU Headquarter and accommodate VIPs, CISCA members, FISU staff and guests. Overview of the proposed site for the HOD meeting
So far, there are twelve countries who have submitted their entry forms: Chinese Taipei, Canada, Great Britain, Japan, United States, Singapore, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, China and Sweden. The O.C. of Chinese Taipei is hoping that there will be more countries sending in their entry forms over the next several weeks. The 2008 World University Archery Championship would present a great tune-up opportunity for every individual who will compete at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. Surely, this successful site inspection visit by Mr. Holgado has indicated that this event in Chinese Taipei is going to be a wonderful one.
