Executive Committee Meeting: Day 2
January 15th, 2007
Today January 15th, the second day of the the EC Meeting was dedicated to the World University Championships. Mr. Sinisa Jasnic, Chairman of the WUC and Mr. Laurent Briel Director of WUC gave an overview of the WUC that were organized in 2006. ‘The year 2006 has just ended and with that ends a year of a total organisation of 28 world championships distributed on four continents and in 21 different countries. We would like to underline for that purpose the importance for us that most of these events took place on university campuses. We are also very happy to have been able to benefit from the presence of academic authorities who came to attend our championships’, Mr. Jasnic said. ‘The active presence of FISU Member Federations within the Organising Committees was remarkable this year and we wish that it continues in the future.’ Then the floor was given to the WUC Oragnizing Committees for their final report. After the break it was time for the candidates of more 2008 WUC and some for the 2010 WUC as well.
2008 WUC
The following WUC for 2008 were attributed: Boxing: Kazan, Russia Golf: Sun City, South Africa Field Hockey: Johannesburg, South Africa Waterskiing: Beijing, China Wild Water Canoeing: Bratislava, Slovakia Wrestling: Thessalonica, Greece Woodball: Varna, Bulgaria Bringing the total number of WUC in 2008 to 25.
2010 WUC
The following WUC for 2010 were attributed: Badminton: Taipei, Chinese Taipei Boxing: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia Bridge: Kaoshiung, Chinese Taipei Chess: Zurich, Switserland Cross Country: Kingston, Canada Futsal: Novi Sad, Serbia Golf: Malaga, Spain Handball: Nyiregyhaza, Hungary Orienteering: Borlange, Sweden Rugby 7: Porto, Portugal Wrestling: Torino, Italy Bringing the total number of WUC in 2010 to 11.
