2011 Summer Universiade: Update

From March 3rd to March 6th, FISU President George Killian and Secretary-General Eric Saintrond visited the city of Shenzhen, host of the 2011 Summer Universiade. They were accompanied by FISU Assessor and Chair of the Marketing Committee Sinisa Jasnic. In Shenzhen they met with all the city authorities and with Mr. Liu Yupu, Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the CPC.

On March 5th, the FISU delegates visited the construction site of the Universiade Centre and had a look at the photo gallery depicting the proposed projects, i.e. the Universiade Main Stadium, the main gymnasium, the swimming and diving centre and the Athletes’ Village. Mr. Killian, Mr. Saintrond and Mr. Jasnic also assisted at the foundation stone laying of the Athletes’ Village on the new campus of the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology.
‘The success of building the new Universiade Village plays a vital role in the success of the Universiade and the future development of the institute.’ Mr. Zhang Jihong, President of the Shenzhen Institute of Information technology said in his speech. ‘We will take this opportunity to be a good host and provide excellent service.’ ‘We firmly believe that with our joint effort, the Universiade Village will be a modern Athletes’ Village which integrates many functions such as recreation, entertainment, living and training.’ Mr. Jiang Jianjun, Director-General of the Public Works Bureau told the attending delegates. ‘We look forward to welcoming FISU President Killian and the FISU Officials again in the Universiade Village.’
The same day, FISU Marketing Chair Mr. Jasnic met with the Shenzhen 2011 Marketing Department in order to evaluate the marketing strategy of the Games.
