FISU Endorsed Event: 2008 SELL Games
March 10th, 2008
Preliminary Entries Promise Again Great Number of Participants
So far SELL2008-organisers have received nearly 1,700 entries representing 68 different institutions of higher education from 13 countries. It can be said without a doubt that the SELL Games will be again one of the biggest student sport events this year around the Baltic Sea. Most popular sports are filling up quickly and for example men's tournament in mini-football reached the maximum of 16 teams right away. Also other team sports seem to attract participants. In individual sports athletics and swimming - as expected - have rather high figures already at this early stage. There are 13 sports in the programme of the Games. In addition to the most common ball games, competitions will be held in athletics, chess, judo, orienteering, shooting, ultimate frisbee and swimming. Organisers expect some 1,800 to 2,000 participants out of which half comes from abroad. SELL Games is also a part of the great serie of events organised in the city of Espoo, which celebrates it's 550th anniversary in 2008. 'It is great to see this much interest towards the event!', says Tuukka Eloranta, the President of the Finnish Student Sports Federation. 'Apart from sport and competitions, there are lots of other interesting happenings during the SELL Games, including the international seminar under the theme “Sport and Technology” on Friday May 23rd.' More detailed participation figures will be available after the next registration deadline, which is March 20th. There is still plenty of time to collect a team and register for the competitions!
