2008 WUC Handball: Day 4

Men's Competition
The situation of the quarter-finals of the men's tournament in the 19th World University Handball Championship is being outlined. The first fixture is Turkey vs. Georgia, thanks to the victory of the latter versus Japan. The challenge between Georgia and Japan (28-27) was the most spectacular and balanced among those played at Palaturismo, a match played point by point, with non-stop overturning, a challenge that in the end saw the runner-up of Danzica 2006 dominated. In the other match disputed in the morning in Jesolo, an easier victory for the Serbians in their game against Azerbaijan (33-25). Russia, defending world champion, draws with Latvia and accesses to the quarter-finals thank to a better score difference, and Turkey wins its leg (D) with a full score, that has defeated even Mexico (38-24). Austria, instead, dominated largely versus a freshman Australia (55-13).
Women's Competition
In the women's competition in Oderzo, the Italian were defeated by Russia with 28-45 in the last match of the preliminary round. In the other play Azerbaijan won against China (31-25), a score that allows the Azerbaijani team to access the quarter-finals. Brazil accesses to the quarter-finals thanks to the victory obtained versus Belarus. Also going straight away to the quarter-finals are the battleships Hungary (38-25 versus Japan), Serbia (22-20 versus Poland) and Czech Republic, although its defeat against Lithuania (25-34).
