Exchanging gifts with the President of Poland

On Monday, January 8th, FISU President George E. Killian, accompanied with his wife Marylin, FISU Executive Committee Member Marian Dymaslki, President of the National University Sports Association of Poland Mr. Marek Rocki and Kolë Gjeloshaj of the FISU Secretariat met with Mr. Lech Kaczynski, the President of Poland. It was the occasion for the President of the Republic to emphasize in presence of the FISU officials and Mr. Ryszard Grobelny, Mayor of Poznan, how important the bid of the city of Poznan for the 2011 Summer Universiade was for the country. The President reminded Mr. Killian how much the city has been developing during recent years and he also stressed the importance Poland is giving to higher education. Indeed, there are no less than 2 million students in the country. This fact combined with the long tradition of high level sport are the main factors of the support of the government to the Poznan bid. The meeting with the President of the Republic was followed by a press conference at the Polish Olympic Committee in presence of Mr. Radoslaw Parda, Deputy Minister of Sport and Mrs. Irena Szewinska, Vice-President of the Polish NOC and IOC member. During their presence at the Polish Olympic Committee the delegation paid a visit to the Museum located in the same building. It was the occasion for the FISU President to devote his time to his passion for sport stamps.
