FISU Mourns Former CIC Member

József Gyenge
With great sadness we have to announce that Mr. József Gyenge (HUN), former member of the FISU International Control Commission passed away on November 18th at the age of 72. His walk of life was determined by his constant devotion to physical education and sports. He started his sports career as a swimmer and as a student he was a member of the Hungarian national swimming team and the junior water-polo team. He graduated from University in 1958 as a PE teacher. For several years he worked in a high ranking position in public administration. In 1979, Mr. Gyenge got involved in the work of FISU as an internal auditor. From 1987 until 1999 he was a member of the CIC. Following his retirement, in the last couple of years he continuously helped the work of the Hungarian University Sports Federation MEFS. In 2001, at the Beijing Universiade he managed the MEFS Head-Office and also played a significant role in the preparations for the MEFS centennial celebrations, which he could only follow with attention from his home. For sure we will miss this always calm and friendly gentleman and will keep him in our memories …
