2008 WUC Women's Futsal: Opening Ceremony

The General Technical Meeting took place in the hotel where the athletes are lodged. All Heads of delegation were informed about the specifics of this inaugural championship. The Opening Ceremony of the 1st WUC Women’s Futsal was hosted in a a place that used to be a old warehouse in the old port of Vitoria but has been completely transformed in a multifunctional venue.

Roberto Maldonade, President of the OC welcomed the participants and thanked the authorities for their support. Pedro Dias, Chair of the CISCA and FISU Assessor stressed the historical importance for Brazil to take up the challenge to organise the WUC Women’s Futsal for the first time. He also stressed the work done by the OC and gave the floor to Mr. Luciano Cabral, CBDU President and FISU Vice-President.

Mr. Cabral thanked the authorities and the Brazilian Futsal Federation for their support. Then Mr. Dias invited Mr. Apolinario Rebelo, Coordinator of the University Sport department from the Brazilian Sport Ministry, to declare the 1st World University Women’s Futsal Championship open. The cultural part of the Opening Ceremony was a typical Brazilian fiesta with lots of music and dance. Even before the competitions have started, the athletes were already fraternizing taking pictures and having fun.
