2008 WUC Forum: Update

During the last day of the FISU Forum, participants had an opportunity to learn more about the role of women within the University Sport Movement. In October 2007, a Women’s Committee was established within the FISU structure. Mrs. Yang-Ja Hong in her presentation discussed its objectives. The vision of this Committee is to foster a culture which promotes and supports the full involvement of women in the whole range of activities undertaken by the international sport organizations. She also presented the research project about the situation of women in the university sport movement. The committee used an online questionnaire in order to overview the situation of women in the university sport movement as well as evaluation of the progress at the FISU member or national level. It will be repeated every four years.

Next speaker was Ines Lenze form the National University Sports Federation of Germany (ADH). The title of her presentation was “TANDEM – Mentoring for young women in University Sport“. It is a programme launched by ADH to improve the situation of women in the German University Sports Federation. The main concepts of this programme are: one-to-one-mentoring for one and a half years as well as seminars in further education for the mentees. The future ambitions of TANDEM is to continue evaluation of this programme to make futher improvements and maybe use it in the international area.

After this presentation, Claude-Louis Gallien inivted everyone to the conference that will be held in 2009 in Belgrade during the Universiade. The main subject of this conference will be „The role of the univeristy sport in education and society“. The morning session ended with presentation of the organizing committee of the next FISU Forum in Murcia, Spain.

In the afternoon there was an official Closing Ceremony of the 9th FISU Forum. Claude-Louis Gallien evaluated this Forum and made some conclusions. Konrad Mirecki passed the FISU flag to the Roberto Outeirino that represented Organizing Committee of the next FISU Forum. In the evening delegates visited the Salt Main in Wieliczka and participated in the closing banquet, where they received diplomas and gifts.
