2010 WUC Rugby 7: Update

On October 1st, the first Executive Comity meeting of the 4th World University Rugby Seven Championship took place. The WUC will be organized by the University of Porto in 2010. The Rector of the University of Porto, Mr. José Marques dos Santos, opened the working session with a motivational speech and some gratitude words for the efforts that have been made for achieving this project. “University of Porto is very satisfied with the organisation of this event because it goes with our internationalization wishes, attracting students from all over the world. This happening promoted by the University of Porto, will bring several benefits to the northern Portugal region and to the country” asseverated the Rector.
The meeting continued with the Project analysis that is composed by seven phases (strategic planning, sponsors, promotion, setting, beginning of the Championship, final of the Championship and final report). This first session concerned the issues that belong to the first phase that include points like place definition, Date, procedures, strategies and creation of the Business Plan. The competition will probably happen in the Bessa Stadium between July 21st and 24th, 2010. This event, has been considered a public interest happening by the Sport State Secretary. The organisation is expecting the participation of 24 male teams and 8 female teams (more and less 600 university students-athletes and some of the best players of the world). Such a participation level has never been achieved in the last WUC Rugby editions.
