July 5th, 2008

The FISU delegates with the Mayor of Zakopane and Zofia Kielpinska
The participants of the FISU Forum spent their fourth day in rainy Zakopane (the winter capital of Poland). The first point of the program was a visit to COSA (University Sport Centre). Zofia Kielpinska (skier, Olympian and a medalist of the Winter Universiades) warmly welcomed all the participants , especially the FISU officials. Many other significant persons were present in this meeting like the mayor of Zakopane city, the honorary members of AZS, Universiade medalists, representatives of the organizing committee of the Universiade in Harbin 2009. The mayor of Zakopane in his short speech wished all a good time in Zakopane and he hoped that the weather would be better in the afternoon. Then guests saw a presentation about the two Winter Univerisades (1993 & 2001) that were organized in Zakopane.
The delegates also had a chance to visit some attractive places in this region of Poland. They saw the natural jumping hill Wielka Krokiew, the cable car in KuŸnice, the wooden chapel built in a typical style for this region in Jaszczurówka and Chocho³ów – a small village with many wooden houses. The delegates had a chance there to visit one of those houses - a museum of local art and culture. They spent their spare time in Krupówki – the famous promenade in Zakopane where there are many shops and restaurants. At the end of the day, the participants were invited for a barbecue. It was a great opportunity to taste specialties of this region. The guests were impressed by a folk band wearing traditional costumes.
