2009 Winter Universiade MA News: NZL Appoints Head of Delegation

University Sport New Zealand has appointed Michael Forrestal to be the New Zealand Chef de Mission (head of delegation) for the New Zealand team attending the World Winter Universiade, Harbin, China 2009. Michael was Chef de Mission of the New Zealand delegations that attended the 3 previous Games in Italy in 2003 & 2007 and Austria in 2005. Michael said, “I am pleased to be leading the team to Harbin in 2009 and be involved with a team representing New Zealand team at this event. Our team always enjoys the competitive sporting and cultural environment that the Winter Universiade provides. It allows the New Zealand athletes to compete at a high level and achieve on the international stage in their chosen sport and academic life. Harbin will be a great event for us and I am looking forward to trying the ski fields myself. It will also give the team the opportunity to make new friendships and continue old ones. They will also meet people involved in University sports, learn about their cultures and countries. It also gives the team an opportunity to promote and represent University Sport New Zealand and their winter sports organisations ”.
