2008 WUC Golf: Day 2

September 4th, 2008

Time for a souvenir for Italian Francesco Bonaga

Hamilton Wheeler (USA) at hole 18

Another sunny day in Sun City, South Africa and once again, the Gary Player Golf Course got the better of most players in the 2nd round of the 12th World University Golf Championship. The fast, undulating greens proved to be the deciding factor in limiting only 10 males and 2 females to score par or better. Italian Leonardo Motto added a 72 to his 1st round score of 68 to lead the men's individual field by 5 shots ahead of David Booth and Andy Shakespear, both from Great Britain.

Caroline Rominger from Switzerland is the leading female with a 3-over par 36 hole total of 147. Katie Tewell from the USA with 150 and Marion Ricordeau, France and Laura Crawford, USA follow with 151 shots. The team events are proving interesting. Italy holds a 1-shot lead over Japan in the men's event, whilst the USA are 3-shots clear of Switzerland in the women's team competition. Today's play may have a significant influence on the final result.
