2008 WUC Archery: Update

April 3rd, 2008

As the 2008 World University Archery Championship is around the corner, host Chinese Taipei has kicked off a promotional campaign for this event. The campaign is also tied in with the one for the country’s annual National University Games this year. Chinese Taipei’s 2008 National University Games will be taking place in May, while the regional qualifying tournaments for several sports are now underway at several universities nationwide. The World University Archery Championship is probably the biggest university sports event in Chinese Taipei for 2008. So far, 24 countries have submitted the entry forms, as there will be more than 220 competitors and officials expected to participate in the 2008 World University Archery Championship in Tainan County. 'Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation wished to take advantage of this great opportunity at our National University Games to promote the 2008 World University Archery Championship', said Dr. Shiang-Ming Wei, Secretary-General of the Federation. 'We are hoping for the Championship to receive significant local and international media exposure this summer.' Dr. Wei emphasized. 'We made the banners and other promotional materials specifically for the Championship and they can be seen at every competition venue of the National University Games. That was just a starter.' Dr. Wei spoke confidently of the campaign. Chinese Taipei has performed competitively in the past World University Archery Championships. Overall, the Chinese Taipei university archery teams have accounted for 4 gold medals, 2 silvers and 5 bronzes over those championships since 1998.
