2008 WUC Beach Volleyball: Referee Seminar

July 2nd, 2008

On Sunday, June 29th, 2008, a one-week long international beach volleyball referee seminar started as a part of the 4th World University Beach Volleyball Championship 2008 staged by the German Volleyball Federation in corporation with the International Volleyball Federation. With the examination today the theoretical part will be completed. The course is directed by the Brazilian Elzier Martins de Oliviera together with René Petton, who is in charge of the organizational needs. The theoretical part includes game regulations as well as the correct dealing with protocols. 13 Referees from Belgium, Iran, Israel, Swiss, Brazilian, Netherlands, Eastland, Croatia, Germany, Denmark, Czech Republic and Argentina attended the course. The maximum number of participants of the Referee course which occurs twice a year is 15 participants. To be able to be part of the FIVB International Referee Candidate Course the candidates have to work as a referee at least two years in the highest federal association. They have to be between 21 and 40 years old. “The course level is very high”, said René Petton. Thereby the Organizing Committee makes sure that there are enough qualified referees for the World University Beach Volleyball Championship. In addition to that, the smaller nations that often can not delegate referees with international licences get the chance to send candidates to the instruction seminar. That way they can not only fulfil their obligations for the WUBC but they will also be able to provide candidates with the required international licence in the future.
