New Venue for 2008 WUC Water Skiing
The Local Organizing Committee
The LOC received an official notice from BOCOG (Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee), informing that no international championships can be organized 100 days prior and 30 days after the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. Hotel rates in Beijing are rapidly increasing as well. Jundu hotel, the proposed hotel for the 2008 WUC Water Skiing is also the official hotel for Triathlon at the Olympic Games. The price of the hotel is now 200 USD per night. The competition venue, Ming Tomb reservoir, is also the official venue for Triathlon during the Olympic Games, and BOCOG will not allow the LOC to go into the venue within 2 months period after the closing of Olympic Games.
Taking into consideration these new elements, the LOC decided to stage the WUC in Tianjin. The city of Tianjin is only 120 kilometers from Beijing, and the Dongli-Lake of Tianjin city can reach the standard of IWSF and FISU Water Skiing championship. IWSF World Cups and World Water Skiing Championships were hosted in Dongli-Lake before. The Tianjin Education Committee staff has full experience of hosting FISU events, because they were host city for the 2006 WUC Bridge.
Accommodation
Athletes and delegation officials will be accommodated in Dongli-Lake Holiday Village, which is a very nice summer resort. The referees, technical delegates and the FISU Family will be lodged in the hotel near to the resort. The Hotel is only 5 minutes walking distance from the venue. Three meals will be arranged in the hotel. The open and close time can be available upon the request of the event arrangement. An international menu will be served and Muslim and vegetarian food can be provided upon request.
Welcome, Accreditation and Transportation
The OC will arrange volunteers to welcome the athletes and delegation officials in Beijing Capital International Airport and it will take 1.5 hour of travel from Beijing Capital International Airport to Tianjin Dongli-Lake Holiday Village. The OC has subscribed the online accreditation system from FISU which will be used for the accreditation of athletes. The OC has planned a regular shuttle bus service connecting the airport with the host city.
