FISU President Killian hands over the FISU flag to the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Mr. Bozidar Djelic
A magnificent ceremony graciously closed the 24th Summer Universiade tonight following a pre-closing music performance by local Thai artists. After ten days of straining efforts in heath and humidity, top-notch performances and Universiade breaking records, the Universiade Flame was extinguished after the closing speeches of the President of the Organising Committee Prof. Wichit Srisa-an, Minister of Education, and FISU President George E. Killian. After the FISU flag was lowered it was traditionally presented to the delegates of the Local Organising Committee of the next Summer Universiade, in casu Belgrade 2009. Deputy-Prime Minister of Serbia Bozidar Djelic happily received the FISU flag from FISU President Killian in name of the Belgrade hosts. The people from Belgrade accepted the FISU banner with great anticipation and they presented the audience an impressive cultural performance.
Although the Flame of the Games has been extinguished, the light that lit the Universiade flame has lit the hearts of the athletes who will remember for a lifetime the friendships they made during this university sporting event. Finally, the credo of the Bangkok Universiade becomes reality, the athletes of the World ‘all become one’ while performances of Thailand's contemporary bands and hip-hop groups together with DJ's from around the world entertain the participants in full swing.
Once again FISU could rely on a record-breaking Summer Universiade. With 24 Universiade swimming and 2 athletics records sharpened, and the presence of World and Olympic Champions, the Bangkok Universiade was a more than successful sporting event. However, the 24th Summer Universiade also set new attendance standards, crossing the 9,000 participation mark, i.e. 9,006 participants from 152 countries to be precise. The Organizers of the 25th Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia in 2009 can now start their last stretch of preparations…

Summer Universiade Bangkok 2007 Drugfree!
'The 2007 World University Games are drug free', Dr. Larry Rink, Chairman of the FISU Medical Commission confirmed. 'Over 6,000 athletes from 152 countries have competed in 18 sports. Fife hundred and twenty doping samples have been completed and all samples are negative for banned substances. We are very disappointed that false information has been reported by the AP regarding doping control at the World University Summer Games held in Bangkok. FISU is a world leader in anti-doping. FISU works closely with WADA and the International Sports Federations to stop doping and to punish athletes who have been identified as using banned substances. The FISU World University Games in Bangkok are drugfree.'
Announcement FISU Medical Commission
To the attention of the Head of Delegations, We would like to inform you that there are two (2) suspected cases of Dengue fever at the Bangkok WUG. Dengue fever is a viral illness transmitted by a specific type of a mosquito. Symptoms are fever headache and muscle aches. Rarely there can be fluid loss and hemorrhagic problems. Supportive care is the only treatment needed (this may include intravenous fluids). Transmission from human to human does not occur. If you develop these symptoms, please advise your doctor you have been in Bangkok and Dengue fever is present in the area. Also, please review information on the Bangkok Summer University Games Website and refer to the Public Health Service Sub-Committee booklet “Care for you good health and enjoy your games”. ITA Mens' Football Team Receives Fair Play Award of the Universiade

Dr. Kamuti, President of the International Fair Play Committee presents the Fair Play Award to the delegate of the Italian Football Team
At the farewell reception hosted by UBOC2007, Dr. Jeno Kamuti, President of the International Fair-Play Committee and former Olympic and Universiade Fencing Champion, presented the International Fair-Play Award to the representative of the Italian Football Team. 75 minutes before playing the final against the Ukraine on August 17th, the Azzuri had their full kit stolen. In order to ensure that the Universiade Men's Football Final started on time for broadcasting purposes, they offered to play in the second kit of their opponents or to play in their warm-up gear. Since the UKR team did not have their second kit at the stadium, the Italians geared up in their warm-up tops. Meanwhile, a member of the ITA delegation was sent to the Village for their second kit. Their warm-up tops did not have numbers so they were collected and rushed to a nearby store to have the numbers attached. The game started on time with the ITA team playing in their 'new' numbered t-shirts. They changed into their official shirts at half-time. The Italians lost the game 0:1. Well done to the Italian team for overcoming this major obstacle, being patient in difficult circumstances and working so hard to ensure that the game started on time.
