FISU PRESIDENT

George E. KILLIAN (USA)

George E. KILLIAN (USA)

Born on April 6, 1924, in Valley Stream, New York, USA. Married with two children. Mr Killian was FISU First Vice-President since 1995, Vice-President since 1987 and member of FISU’s International Control Commission (CIC) from 1975 to 1987. Before holding office in FISU , George E. Killian has been thrice delegation chief of Team USA. Academic Achievements - Bachelor of Science in Education, Ohio Northern University, 1949 - Masters of Education, University of Buffalo, 1954 - Honorary PhD in Public Service, Ohio Northern University, 1989 Coaching Career - Basketball Head Coach Wharton High School, 1949-1951 - Basketball Head Coach Erie County Community College, 1954-1969 Sports Administration - President of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) from 1990 to 1998 - Member of the International Olympic Committee in 1996 in his FIBA presidential capacity -Treasurer of COPABA (Panamerican Basketball Confederation) - Director of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) George E. Killian has an inborn sense of human relations. He knows how to make those around him comfortable and can motivate long and short term commitments. He is, in short, a coach of the first order, and invests enormous energy in the fulfilment of his ideas. He is the first to point out that there is no secret to his contagious enthusiasm: 'The only thing that counts for me in the morning is to get to work in the knowledge that I like what I do. Nothing gets in the way of people who like what they do. None of my responsibilities weighs on me, even if, at the end of the year, I realise that I have spent only one week out of every two at home. When I became a sports director, I accepted certain responsibilities. If one finds meeting people from every horizon hard to deal with, then it's better not to accept in the first place.'
