History
The Faculty of Sports and Physical Education of the University of Belgrade is a scientifically-educational institution, which is continuously, since 1946, educating high-level educated stuff for Physical Education teaching in schools, as well as for sports and recreation. Since the academic year 2004 there are founded the Department for Sports and the Department for Physical Education on the Faculty. The origin of the Faculty goes to 1938, when it was founded first one-year school for the education of the staff from our field, i.e. from 1939, when it was opened as a School for Physical Education in the range of the College.
From 1946 to 1953 we used to work as The State Institute for the Physical Culture (hence the popular name DIF, which exists even now), and after that, from 1953 to 1956 as The Institute for the Physical Culture, in the period from 1956 to 1963 as the High School for Physical Education. In the year 1963 we were incorporated into the University of Belgrade. From 1978 to 1988 we exist as The Faculty for the Physical Education; from 1988 to 2000 as the Faculty of the Physical Culture and in the year 2000 we changed the name into the present one - Faculty of Sports and Physical Education. Naturally, the name changes have been the consequence of the significant reforms of the course of study, with the aim of as appropriate education of the stuff as possible.
Beside the basic activity, within the Stuff Centre of the Faculty there are trainings of the stuff for the lower coach ranks in the sports and recreation, in the contexts of the permanent education and skills improvement.
Methodical-Research Laboratory of the Faculty is gathering the material and the technical means, as well as the expert potentials of the Faculty, for the realization of the part of the lectures, expert and scientific development of the Faculty, as well as the collaboration with the sports associations and the clubs. The Laboratory is organized in such a way to enable the realization of the projects in the field of the computational-informational, mobility-biomechanical and medical-biological sector.
The Faculty's library provides the students with all the necessary literature for the exams, reading-room and great number of books and magazines (altogether 24,462 publications) from the field of physical culture.
In the premises of the library it is enabled for the students to access via internet all the expert, scientific and other information needed.
The Faculty publishes the journal ‘Physical Culture', the oldest organ from our field, which is being published for 61 years.
Close to the Faculty there are student dormitories, for which (like for the other ones on the territory of Belgrade) students of the Faculty can apply. Application term for the next academic year is in September. The condition for the grant of the student dormitory accommodation is successful studying and modest material resources of a student.
