Role of the Liaisons of the Continental Associations to the FISU Women’s Committee

The purpose of the liaison persons of the Continental Associations is to be the direct link between their continent and the FISU Women’s Committee.

Their responsibilities include [but not adhered to] stimulating debates, conferences, etc. on gender issues in University Sport, collecting facts and figures on the current situation of University Sport in each member country and subsequently informing FISU, and encouraging the development of projects on Women and Sport in their member countries.

 

Vision of the FISU Women’s Committee

• Culture which promotes and supports the involvement of women in the whole range of activities undertaken by the international university sport movement;

• Women as athletes, coaches, administrators, technical officials and sport leaders at national, regional, continental and international level;

• Support of opportunities in different areas;

• Gender equity as one of the values of University Sport.

 

Objectives of the FISU Women’s Committee

• To evaluate the situation of and progress made for women;

• To identify existing successful programmes to reach gender equality;

• To stimulate and support the development of effective policies, practice and strategies through new projects;

• To increase the number of women in leadership positions;

• To build relationships and networks;

• To provide information about FISU policies and activities;

• To work closely with equity partners, decision makers and sports deliverers in order to focus on issues of strategic importance.

 

FISU Women’s Committee Network

The FISU Women’s Committee network has been created to include representatives of the FISU Family and the Women’s Committee members in order to further develop the objectives of the FISU Women’s Committee.

 

FISU Women and Sport Award

• To recognise the specific performance, achievement and contributions made to developing and encouraging the participation of women in the university sport movement

• Awarded to a woman or a man or to an organisation in the field of women in the university sport movement

• Nominations every second year by the members and associate members of FISU

• Presentation at FISU General Assembly or at FISU reception at Summer Universiades
