8th World University Rowing Championship

Jean-François Lamour
Mr Jean-François Lamour, Minister of Youth, Sports and Associational Life honoured the World University Rowing Championship with his presence and officially inaugurated the new medical centre of the water sports base. He highlighted the remarkable work of the local authorities in the development of the site of the Lac de Causse, work that was rewarded by the hosting of the FISU championship, which is only the first step in the international renown that this lake will encounter. The minister also emphasised the importance of university sports – let us not forget that Mr Lamour participated in Universiade fencing and was also an Olympic medallist. During the ceremony, Mr Bernard Murat, Senator Mayor of Brive la Gaillarde joined the minister in inaugurating a monument to the water sports activities of Lac de Causse.
Mr Christian Denis, President of the French University Sports Federation was also present at the championship and addressed the delegations. He took an active part in the success of this championship. He thanked Mr Lionel Girard, Chairman of the FISU Technical Commission for Rowing for his commitment which was evident from the decision to bid for the championship up until the event itself.
Women's Four
During the Closing Ceremony, Mr P. Tilstra, CISCA Chairman and First Assessor of FISU officially awarded a FISU medal to Mr Jean-Pierre Labrugnas, President of the Watersports Club as a symbol of thanks for the outstanding work he and his team accomplished during the championship and in the preceding months. Last but not least, the welcome, efficiency and availability of the numerous volunteers must also be noted.
The FISU flag was transmitted from Mr Bernard Murat, Senator Mayor of Brive la Gaillarde to Mr Tilstra who then officially transmitted the flag to the organisers of the 9th World University Rowing Championship that will take place in Trakai, Lithuania. Ms Inga Okulviciene accepted the flag on behalf of the Lithuanian Organising Committee.
