2008 WUC Chess: Update

Inspection Visit

In the frame of the X World University Chess Championship 2008, wich will be held in Novokuznetsk, Russia and mandated by the FISU President Killian, FISU Assessor Oleg Matytsin travelled to Novokuznetsk for an inspection visit from January 24th to 25th, 2008. Mr. Matytsin met with the Vice-President of the Organising Committee, Mayor of Novokuznetsk City Mr. Sergey Martin, who assured him that the Novokuznetsk city government will guarantee the Championship to be held on high level and all necessary cooperation from the city government including all necessary security measures will be provided. The city of Novokuznetsk is ready to welcome the participants and both the accommodation venue and the competition venue are ready for the Championship. Arrivals Meeting points will be organized in the airports of Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo and Novosibirsk. Organisers are prepared to welcome the participants in all three airports and will provide local transportation to the accommodation venue. The OC is working in close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in providing visa support for the participants. Accommodation All participants, FISU and FIDE representatives, VIP and guests will be accommodated in the Recreational and Health Hotel Ozerny, wich is located near a picturesque pine forest on the lake shore, in a green environment, within a 10-minute walking distance from the competition venue. The hotel can accommodate 217 persons. All participants, VIP, guests, FISU and FIDE representatives will be accommodated in single rooms. Meales (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be served at the Hotel. Two halls in the Hotel will be equipped with computers with free Internet access. Accreditation Accreditation will be held in the Hotel. Competition Venue The competitions will be held in the Recreation and Leisure Centre of West Siberian Steel Works (Zapsib) with all necessary infrastructure for organising such type of competition. The Organizing Committee purchased digital E-boards, digital chess clocks and will provide on-line broadcast of all games on the Internet. Four halls in the competition venue will be equipped with computers providing free Internet access. A press centre will be organised at the competition venue. Medical Assistance At the competition venue a permanent medical assistance team will be present and be responsible for the first aid during the Championship. Hotel Ozerniy has its own medical centre. Participants So far the following countries already confirmed their participation: Iran, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Mongolia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, China, Japan, Portugal, Somali, South-African Republic and Zambia. The Organising Committee is currently working with Germany, Greece, Byelorussia, Ukraine, Moldova, Kirgizia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan. Judges The OC guarantees that 5 top level judges from Russia and Kazakhstan will be working on the Championship. Cultural Program The OC is preparing an interesting cultural program for all participants and guests. The OC also has launched its website at www.wucc2008.org.
