April 30th, 2008

Final Women's Final

After the men's singles battle between AFSHIN Noroozi (IRI) and PHUCHONG Sanguansin (THA), the closing ceremony officially started at 18:30 on April 27th. Mr. Bayasgalan, President of MSSF, gave a speech before the closing ceremony of the 1st Asian University Table Tennis Championship. This event was held at a peculiarly interesting period as this is the year during which will be organized the Beijing Olympics. This fact made it even more attractive for many Mongolians who warmly welcomed the Championship and closely followed it in the Central Sports Palace as well as via live broadcast on TV9 channel. Thus, the championship was regarded with great enthusiasm and warm reception.

Dr.YAN Guohua, Vice Secretary General of the Asian University Sports Federation, gave his closing speech: “Table Tennis can be the smallest game in sports, but what we can possibly achieve through these smallest ball games is the purpose of mutual understanding, mutual learning and mutual development. This is the true value of our sports development and the fundamental task of our Asian University Sports which represents an important part of education through physical sports. This will not only give us healthy bodies and clever brains but most importantly, we will have healthy psychological development and sound social citizenship.” Further to his address, the medal awarding ceremony started and lasted for about an hour. Then, the AUSF flag was lowered.

About 30 local umpires and around 50 volunteers worked during the Championship. The Organizing Committee organized a cultural program for all participating countries’ student-athletes and officials during the Championship such as a free visit to the National History museum, Natural History museum, Gandan Monastery and Zaisan hill.
