The Local Organizing Committee of the 2008 World University Baseball Championship received a great honor – Mr. Sergey Bubka, former top-class athlete, member of the International Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Athletes Commission of the IOC, became the patron of the 4th edition of this event which will be held in the Czech Republic in 2008. Patronage of such personality proves an event of world importance and high level and will be important for participants, organizers and the Championship itself. Sergey Bubka has set 17 world outdoor (6.14 in 1994) and 18 indoor records (6.15 in 1993). He has jumped 6.00 or higher in 43 competitions. At GP, 2 overall successes (1991 and 1993) and 5 individual GP at pole vault. Won European Championships 1986, European Indoor 1985, European Cup 1985, Goodwill Games 1986, 6 times World Champion (1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1995 et 1997), and a gold medal at the 1988 Olympics.
