Member Association News: Mongolian Medallists Received by their Prime Minister

On August 24th, 2007, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, Mr. M. Enkhbold, officially received and congratulated the Mongolian medallists, coaches and officials of the Mongolian Student Sports Federation (MSSF) who successfully participated in the XXIV Summer Universiade held in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 8th to 18th. Mongolia had sent 47 delegates to participate in 6 sports disciplines (judo, shooting, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis and athletics) in the Bangkok Universiade. In Women's Judo, Ms. M.Bundmaa won the Universiade's title in the 52kg weight category, being the first ever female athlete from Mongolia to receive the gold medal in Universiade history. A 22-years-old student at the National Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, Ms. M.Bundmaa was also a silver medalist at the Asian Games held in Doha, Qatar 2006. Since the debut of Mongolian Athletes in the Universiade in 1973, five male athletes won champion titles. In addition, in the discipline of Women's 25m Pistol Shooting, Ms. Ts.Munkhzul took the second place and was awarded with the silver medal. 26 year-old Munkhzul is a student of the Mongolian State University of Education and already won Gold and Bronze medals in the World Cup Championship, Gold and Bronze medals at the Asian Championships, a Gold medal at the East Asian Games in 2005 and she already met the eligibility requirements for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Along these athletes, there were also their coaches Mr. Ch. Nasantogtokh (Judo), and Mrs. B. Altantsetseg (Shooting), as well as the President of Mongolian Student Sports Federation and newly-elected Treasurer of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), Mr. D. Bayasgalan and Mr. D. Jargalsaikhan, Secretary-General of MSSF, Assessor of AUSF and the Head of the Mongolian Delegation.

The Prime Minister, Mr. Enkhbold exchanged views with the athletes, coaches and other delegates and congratulated them for their successful participation in the Universiade taking the rating 37-39th place among 152 countries and expressed the government pledge to support athletes in training and participating in future Universiade Games. Moreover, on behalf of the Government of Mongolia, the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the active involvement of the Mongolian Student Sports Federation in the International University Sports Movement and personally congratulated and expressed a gratitude to Mr. Bayasgalan -the first Mongolian citizen to be elected to the this high-ranking post of Treasurer of FISU. During the meeting, the Prime Minister also handed flowers and souvenirs to the athletes, coaches and other delegates on the occasion of their successful participation in the 2007 Universiade.
