March 27th, 2008
Students-Subdeans First Volunteers for Universiade Belgrade 2009

Twenty students-subdeans from all the faculties in Belgrade have become the first volunteers for the 2009 Belgrade Summer Universiade. At the registration ceremony, supported by the Head of Belgrade University Mr. Branko Kovacevic, students-subdeans expressed their readiness to participate in the the largest sports event ever held in Serbia and to help the process of volunteer recruiting with their own example. This way they are also creating a positive image of our country in the world. Volunteering in this event offers many possibilities to the young, from learning new skills and expanding their CVs, to developing new friendships and contacts with students from all over the world - said Marko Milutinovic, student’s representative. 'The Universiade is an important event for the development of Belgrade University and student support is vital for its organization. We highly appreciate this initiative, firmly believing that other students will follow their example', said Professor Dr. Branko Kovacevi, Head of Belgrade University. 'The Universiade is above all a university event, and students’ initiative is the best way to launch a project for the volunteer recruitment. UB2009 Company is honoured by the sub-deans’ registration. I am sure it will be a strong encouragement to their colleagues. This nationally significant event can be successfully organized only by joint efforts of the UB2009, Universities and students themselves', pointed out Sinisa Jasnic, UB2009 General Director. The importance of Universiade was recently confirmed by the Belgrade University Senate. It recommended to the faculties to treat the volunteering at Universiade as a socially useful work and to reward the volunteers with a number of extra ESPB points, equal to the number of their optional courses. Preparations for Belgrade Universiade will require 15,000 volunteers of which 2,000 should come from the region, Europe and the world.
