2008 WUC Squash: Day 4
August 26th, 2008

Men's Final
After half day of the free time which was used by the athletes to see the pyramids in Giza, the Egyptian museum in Cairo, another Egyptian national treasure or just a hotel swimming pool, the game to finalize the individual tournament started late in the afternoon. The matches for the final ranking were played in a friendly atmosphere. Nevertheless, the bronze medal match and final match showed some great squash. Both games were televised live by two TV channels.
Women's Final
Women's Medal Games
In the women’s event Canadian Alana Miller met Emma Beddoes (GBR) for the bronze. Both players played their maximum and some very nice squash resulting in a bronze medal for Canada. The gold medal game was a Egyptian tête-à-tête between Kuwy and El-Welaily showing their squash skills front of a crowd of 300 people. The match was played in five games with small surprises at the end because the N°2 of the tournament El-Welaily won 3-2 against her opponent Kuwy , the N°1 seeded. The first and third games were won by Kuwy 11-3 and 11-5. The second and fourth by El-Welaily 11-5 and 11-9 respectively. The last and very important game was won by El-Welaily 11-9 and she was decorated as the new World University Squash Champion. Defending champion (2006) Lim from Malaysia finished fifth.
Men's Medal Games
In the men’s event the game for the bronze medal was played between Nafiizwan Adnan (MAS) and Omar Mosaad (EGY) and was finished very quickly. It was a nice short game in which the Egyptian player’s domination was so evident that he gave his opponent the opportunity to swipe three and two points respectively in two games which was not enough and he won 3-0 to join his colleagues on the podium.
The men’s final was another big final for Egyptian University Sports but not surprise for squash aficionados. Ramy Ashour played against Terek Momen and in four games won the Individual event under the FISU five stars. It was a very nice match because both players are professional and well known on the PSA circle. Ashour, the N°4 on the world ranking was the better and the title for this year is in the right hands.
