Bahram Muzaffer (TUR)
Interview with WUC Veteran Bahram Muzaffer (TUR)
Interesting to note, that here in Kazan there are a number of boxers, who participated in the previous WUC editions. Among them are Kordel Kadri (51 kg) and Bahram Muzaffer (81 kg), winning silver medals at the 2004 and 2006 WUCs, as well as Chuluuntumur Tumurhuyag (75 kg) with his bronze of 2006 WUCin the weight category up to 69 kg. It turned out, that Bahram Muzaffer speaks quite good Russian and the journalists don’t need the interpreters’ assistance for arranging their interviews. ‘I used to live in Kursk (Russia) during my childhood, my father worked there, explained Bahram his good Russian’. Bahram, compare the WUC you managed to partake in, as far as I know, you’ve been there, at least, twice. ‘Right you are! And I would like to say, that I like everything here in Kazan. You can judge about the level of the competition by the representation of the countries; no weak boxers came.’ I heard, that Bahyt Sarsekbayev won the previous edition of the World University Boxing Championship, and this year he came up to the 1st place in the podium in Beijing. ‘You’re wrong, they have the same names, but these bowers were two different sportsmen, while Erdos Djanabergenov, the one to defeat me in the WUC final, managed to win the World Championship for seniors. Anyway, the level of the competition, taking place in Kazan, is much higher, than before. Among the participants, I would name, at least, two boxers who participated in the Olympics-2008 in Beijing.’ 7 Turkish boxers won gold medals at the 1st edition of the World University Boxing Championship, which took place in Antalya, as well as at the second one, in Kazakhstan. Do these facts reflect the development of University boxing in your Motherland? ‘Yes. University boxing, as well as amateur boxing, is very popular in my country. Currently, nearly all the members of the National team of Turkey are students. That’s why we have got a very strong line-up here. Professional boxing is not so developed in Turkey.
