2009 Winter Universiade: Ice Rinks Inspection Visit

Today, February 24th, on the first day of the CSU an CTI meetings in Harbin, the FISU delegates visited the ice rinks in Harbin. Harbin, known as the City of Ice, boasts no less than ten ice rinks.

Renovation and Expansion of the Provincial Figure Skating Training Gym

Covering an area of 3,698 sqm and a construction area of 12,093 sqm, the new gym consists of two floors with a height of 24 m and an investment value of more than 46 million yuan. The first floor is an ice rink with the design of 60×30 m and three curling training rinks with 44.5×4.75m reaching international standards, which can serve as training rinks for Short Track Speed Skating, Ice Hockey, Figure Skating, and Curling. The gym is equipped with auxiliary functional rooms and refrigeration equipments for athletes. The second floor is made up of on-land gym and warm-up areas equipped with gym facilities and tools. The gym is to be started in April 2008 and be put to use in the same year.

Renovation of the Provincial Speed Skating Gym

The gym covers an area of 33,000 sqm and a construction area of 22,000 sqm with a height of 28m and an investment value of 37.43 million yuan. It was built for the 1996 Winter Asian Games. The renovation project includes refurbishment of the walls, proof network anti-corrosion, adding desiccant air conditioning facilities, paving rubber tracks, increasing the number of ice preparation vehicle garages, illumination & audio system upgrading, and interior decoration, etc. Containing 2,000 fixed seats, the gym will be the main venue for Speed Skating in the Winter Universiade. The project is to start in April 2008, and to be completed by the end of October.

Renovation of the Provincial Tianrun Skating Gym

The gym covers an area of 9,600 sqm and a construction area of 8,063 sqm with a height of 18.5m and an investment value of 37.43 million yuan. The renovation project includes: ice rink facilities, equipment purchasing, renovation of refrigeration system and power supplied externally, refurbishment of the wall, proof network anti-corrosion and interior decoration, etc. Containing 4,100 fixed seats, the gym is capable of servicing national and international competitions such as Short Track Speed Skating, Ice Hockey, Figure Skating and Curling. The project is to be started in April 2008, and is expected to be complete by the end of August.

Skating Gym Project in Harbin Institute of Physical Education (HIPE)

Located on the campus of HIPE, the newly built gym will serve as Ice Hockey venue during the Winter Universiade. The project covers an area of 13,052 sqm and a construction area of 12,060 sqm, which was started in August 2006 and completed in May 2008.

The gym consists of a training gym, competition gym and auxiliary rooms. The underground is a training gym with an ice sheet of 57×27m, and equipped with changing rooms and accessory rooms. The competition gym on the first floor has an ice sheet of 61×30m, surrounded by such rooms as referees’ lounge, athletes’ lounge, press center, anti-doping and emergency center, etc. 2,200 seats are fixed in the east and west of the gym. The VIP lounge and the Organizing Committee offices are on the second floor. The third floor is used as press area and competition technical rooms. And the fourth floor is for equipments and facilities.

Harbin Ice Hockey Gym & Baqu Stadium

Renovation of Harbin Ice Hockey Gym & Environmental Governance of Baqu Stadium

Harbin Ice Hockey Gym stands to the east of Harbin Baqu Stadium, and will serve as one of Ice Hockey competition venues during the Winter Universiade. It contains an artificial ice area of 1,830 sqm£¬6,000 seats, over 20 athletes¡¯ locker rooms and VIP lounges. The renovation project includes: the refrigeration system in the ice rink being changed into method¡ªindirect glycol refrigeration, LED is replaced by an 8.96¡Á4.8m outdoor double-color LED and green materials are used in the decoration of athletes¡¯ lockers and spectators¡¯ lounge according to the requirements of international competitions. The project was started in June 2007 and completed at the end of October 2008. In addition, the comprehensive environment governance of Baqu Stadium in 2008 includes roads renovation, afforestation and illumination.

Skating Gym Construction Project in Harbin University of Science and Technology

The project started in 2006 and will be completed in June 2008. To meet the needs of the Winter Universiade, a set of refrigeration equipment is installed in the gym as the Men’s Ice Hockey competition venue.

Newly Built Skating Gym of Harbin

Located along Heping Road, Xiangfang District, Harbin, the Newly Built Skating Gym covers an area of 7,160m2 and 7,132m2 construction area. The main project consists of a standard Ice Hockey venue, two standard Curling venues and the relevant accessory facilities. The project started in October 2006, with the main project completed at the end of 2007. During the Universiade, this gym can be used as a warm-up and training venue for athletes.
