Member Association News: USA Announces Men's Ice Hockey Coaching Staff for Harbin

USA Hockey announced that Joe Augustine (North Scituate, R.I.) has been named head coach of the 2009 United States University Select Team, which will compete at the 24th Winter Universiade, to be held Feb. 18-28, 2009, in Harbin, China. The U.S. University Select Team is comprised of players from collegiate ice hockey teams affiliated with the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). USA Hockey also announced that the 2008 USA Hockey Winter World University Games Evaluation Camp will be held Aug. 15-17, 2008, at the Compuware Arena in Plymouth, Mich. The evaluation camp will consist of four teams - Red, White, Blue and Black - each with 20-22 players competing in a three-game, round-robin format. Following the camp, 22 players will be chosen to compete on the 2009 U.S. University Select Team as well as six alternates. Augustine is returning to the U.S. University Select Team coaching ranks, having served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2007 Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy. Augustine is currently in his 20th season as head coach at the University of Rhode Island where he has compiled a 390-170-33 record, 19 consecutive winning seasons and one ACHA National Championship (2006). He won back-to-back ACHA Men's Division I Coach of the Year Awards in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and was the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association (ECHA) Coach of the Year in 2003-04. USA Hockey announced Dave Debol (Saline, Mich.), head coach at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, will serve as one of the assistant coaches for the 2009 U.S. University Select Team. A second assistant coach will be named following the conclusion of the World University Games Evaluation Camp ... USA Hockey also announced Dr. Alan Murdoch (Ames, Iowa), head coach at Iowa State University, will serve as general manager of Team USA, while Ashley Bevan (Colorado Springs, Colo.), director of adult hockey for USA Hockey, will be the team leader and Dr. Razib Khaund (Providence, R.I.) will serve as team doctor.
