The Official Opening Ceremony of the 3rd World University Boxing Championship took place on September 20th in Kazan. The ceremony started in a peculiar way. When reaching the site of the Official ceremony, the participants of the Championship walked through a live corridor made up of the Kazan Universities’ students who were cheering each other and shouting “Russia! Kazan! Universiade!”. When everyone reached the entertainment centre ‘Arena”, the Opening Ceremony itself started, representing 16 participating nations.
'I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the leaders of the Republic of Tatarstan, to the Government of the Republic, to the Kazan city administration, as well as to the Ministry for youth, sports and tourism affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, to the Russian Students Boxing Federation; all they contributed much in the organization and preparation for the 3rd World University Boxing Championship', said Mr. Oleg Matytsyn, RSSU President and FISU Executive Committee member. 'Tatarstan has a rich experience in organizing big sports competitions, and it is pleasure for me to notice, that the Republic has already started the preparations towards the 2013 Summer Universiade.'
Sinisa Jasnic, FISU Executive Committee member, greeted all the participants of the Championship on behalf of George E. Killian, FISU President and wished them good luck in their bouts, some special attention was paid to the Mongolian athletes, the hosts of the 2010 World University Boxing Championship. Yusup Yakubov, the 1st Deputy Minister of youth, sports and tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan was happy to state, that Kazan has become the capital of students sports of Russia: 'The day before we closed the 1st All-Russian Summer Universiade, and it seems as if it is passing the students sports relay baton to the 3rd World University Boxing Championship. I do hope, that everyone will enjoy staying in Kazan and will gain vivid emotions from both competing for the Championship medals and getting to know our ancient capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. I declare the 3rd World University Boxing Championship open', concluded Yusup Yakubov his greeting speech. As soon as the official part of the Opening Ceremony was over, the musical show started together with the Siberean bear to entertain the public.
