A full house at the 'kick-off' of the 2008 WUC campaign in Nijmegen
Former World Champion Time Trial and 1983 Universiade silver medallist Maarten Ducrot
Yesterday, May 22nd, the Organizing Committee of the 2008 World University Cycling Championship in Nijmegen, the Netherlands gave the official kick-off of their event at the ´de Goffert Gaanderij´, the Businessclub of the McDos Goffertstadion, home of the NEC football club. Master of Ceremonies was Maarten Ducrot, former professional cyclist, World Champion Team Time Trial… and silver medalist Team Time Trial at the 1983 Summer Universiade in Edmonton.
The kick-off was an original and successful event with a mixed audience of local media and TV, sponsors, students, University and city representatives. The OC delegates outlined the 5th edition of this WUC. Business partners of the OC Nies & Partners and Roquin E-solutions explained the corporate identity of the WUC and the website at www.wucc2008.com, which was officially put online after a countdown.
Malaya van Ruitenbeek, 2006 WUC Champion invloved in the OC of the 2008 edition
Rob Cuppen, Director of the Nijmegen University Sports Centre and Ron Bormans EC member of the Institute of Higher Education Arnhem-Nijmegen were interviewed by Maarten Ducrot, as well as Paul Depla, Nijmegen alderman for sport and Gerd Prick, mayor of Groesbeek. Interesting to know: Malaya van Ruitenbeek, multiple medallist and World University Champion Time Trial at the previous WUC Cycling in 2006 is currently involved in the Organising Committee and his younger brother Manman will probably participate in the 2008 event.
