Postcards to Support the Universiade in Vigo
May 14th, 2008.
As you know, the day of the official attribution for the 2013 Summer and Winter Universiade is now very close. Indeed, the 31st of May, the FISU Executive Committee will decide who will have the pleasure to organise our 2013 events. During this difficult period, the bidding cities are very active in demonstrating their will to support the Universiade and the FISU in general. Last week-end, the Atlantico Diario, one of Vigo's regional newspapers, organised a special cycling race called "Marcha Vermella" downtown in order to collect the support of the citizens. Indeed the people were invited to sign a special postcard addressed to George E. Killian, the FISU President himself. This was a real success as more than 2,200 participants joined the race. Famous sport stars but also political authorities as well as academic representatives were mixed with people from all ages and origins. Today, Mr Fernando Ojea, Director of the Atlantico Diario came to the FISU Headquarter to officially present the postcards to our Secretary-General, Mr Eric Saintrond. He was very proud to meet with the FISU people and to underline once again the fact that the city of Vigo was ready to welcome the students-athletes in 2013.
